Today we talk with Bryan Uribe, CEO and Founder of Yofii, Inc.

Q - Tell us about Yofii?

Bryan - Yofii is a New York-based Fintech start-up whose mission it is to help its customers achieve financial freedom on their own terms. We essentially make software to get people out of debt. Today, nearly 40% of all debt in the US is consumer credit card debt. That’s why we’re starting with credit card debt. This is where Yofii can have the most impact in the shortest amount of time. Eventually, we hope to address all types of consumer debt.

Q - How did you approach the challenge of PCI compliance?

Bryan - Fortunately, I have experience implementing FinTech solutions, so I’m very much aware of the challenge of PCI compliance. Yofii assists our customers in paying their bills so we potentially have access to many of their most intimate financial details. This is a big responsibility and it is one that we take very seriously.

Q - What does Zero Data mean to you?

Bryan - I was referred to VGS by one of your clients. As soon as I saw your Zero Data concept I immediately understood it and it resonated with our goals. As a startup, I don’t want the massive responsibility of managing sensitive data when there are more effective means of managing that data. I need to know my customer’s data is safe, and Zero Data gives us all of the benefits of the data without any of the worry.

Q - How has VGS helped Yofii?

Bryan - Strategically VGS fits very well with our goals. Your core competency is security, ours is getting people out of debt. We can easily plug into your infrastructure through your API. Many of my customers no longer trust corporations to secure their data. Target, Best Buy, and others have just completely eroded consumer confidence. You give us peace of mind because your sole focus is the security of my customer’s data. VGS protects us and our customers.

Q - How do you see the relationship evolving over time?

Bryan - I’d love to see what you have on your product roadmap. As we grow, security will continue to be a priority for us, especially in the world of financial services. Currently we’re just a team of 5. We hope to one day view you guys almost as our virtual CSO. It’s not just about PCI compliance, it’s more than that. As we expand we see VGS playing a larger role in our success.

Q - How do you quantify the benefit of VGS?

Bryan - When I think about the benefit of VGS, I think about time to market. We’re a scrappy startup with a big mission. Our goal is to get our product out as soon as possible. If we had to focus on achieving PCI compliance ourselves, we would easily add 9 months to our timeline. While important, that time can be dedicated to driving our mission forward. In terms of dollars, I’d guess we’re saving anywhere from $150,000 to $250,000, not including the recurring expenses to stay up to date with compliance.

Q - Any advice for other startups who are beginning their PCI journey?

Bryan - As an entrepreneur I know that to be successful you need to be honest with yourself. You need to think about what you’re good at and what your mission is. You can’t be good at everything. We’re bootstrapping Yofii and we need to execute at a very high level. My advice is to find partners like VGS. Offloading PCI and security really helped us focus on our mission and accelerate its development.

Q - Who is your favorite superhero and why?

Bryan - You mean apart from VGS? Seriously though, it would have to be Green Lantern. I see many similarities. Like VGS the Green Lantern has access to many tools but they’re pretty much invisible to the world - all hidden in his ring.
